§ Mr. G. EDWARDSasked the Minister of Health on what grounds the Ministry refuses to grant a loan towards the erection of houses, as applied for by the urban council of East Dereham; and whether such refusal may be modified having regard to the great shortage of houses and the extreme unemployment existing in that town?
§ Sir A. MONDAccording to the original survey made by this local authority, 12 houses were needed to meet overcrowding, apart from replacement of de- 837W festive houses, and a scheme for building 10 houses has been larried out. In view of the limitation of the housing scheme preference must clearly be given to places where the need is more acute than it is here, and I regret that I cannot authorise an extension of the existing scheme.
