HC Deb 09 February 1922 vol 150 c329W
Mr. N. MACLEAN

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that the relatives of the late Lords Nelson, Rodney, Raglan, and Napier draw pensions totalling £11,000 yearly, £5,000 of which is paid to one individual; and whether the Economy Committee recommends the stopping of those payments?

Sir R. HORNE

The pensions payable to the relatives of the late Lords Raglan and Napier ceased on the 24th October and the 11th December last respectively. The pensions payable to the relatives of Lords Nelson and Rodney are perpetual and amount to £5,000 in the case of the present Earl Nelson, and to £2,000 in the case of the present Lord Rodney. With regard to the latter part of the question, I must ask the hon. Member to await the publication of the Report of the Committee referred to.

Mr. MACLEAN

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that there are three Lord Chancellors on the retired list; that the pensions paid to them total £12,000 yearly; whether the Economy Committee has recommended the stoppage or any reduction of those pensions; and whether the Government is prepared to take steps to prevent the payment of more than one pension for this office?

Sir R. HORNE

There are three Lord Chancellors on the retired list, and the pensions paid to them total £15,000 yearly. As regards the latter part of the question, the answer is in the negative.
