HC Deb 09 February 1922 vol 150 cc315-6W
Captain BENN

asked the Minister of Pensions whether pensions to persons dependent on deceased soldiers are only payable from the date of application; and, if so, for what reason?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The onus of showing that there is a claim to pension based on prewar dependence is upon the claimant, and, as pensions of this nature are granted towards current maintenance, there are no grounds for making the award retrospective.
