HC Deb 09 February 1922 vol 150 cc333-4W
Captain FOXCROFT

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been called to the fact that several unarmed British officers have recently been attacked in the streets of Dublin and their uniforms torn off; and whether any steps have been, or will be, taken to prevent these insults to His Majesty's uniform?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I regret to state that a number of cowardly and unprovoked attacks upon unarmed British soldiers were made in Dublin between 11 p.m. and midnight on the 28th of last month. One soldier was shot at and seriously wounded and others were maltreated and deprived of portions of their uniform. Strong representations were at once made to the Provisional Government who have promised that every effort will be made to trace the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
