THORNEasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport if he is aware that the Midland 2040W Railway Company, London, Tilbury,, and Southend branch, issue three-monthly tickets; that when a passenger makes an application for a six-monthly season ticket he is charged double the cost; and that many season ticket holders are under the impression, before making an application for a six-monthly ticket, that they will not be charged double the cost of a three-monthly ticket; and whether the Government is prepared to make representations to the railway company in question to obtain a rebate on the purchase of a six-monthly season ticket?
§ Lieut.-Colonel ASHLEYI understand that the practice of the Midland Railway Company of charging for a six-monthly season ticket, on their London, Tilbury and Southend branch, double the cost of a three-monthly season ticket, is in accordance with the practice of many railway companies. As the hon. Member is aware, the Minister has no power to intervene in the matter, but I am sending a copy of his question to the company concerned.
