§ Mrs. WINTRINGHAMasked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Government are aware that accusations of atrocities against women and children in Asia Minor are being made by the Greeks against the Turks, with counter-accusations by the Turks against the Greeks; and whether, in view of the serious nature of these allegations, the Government will propose to the League of Nations to send a commission of inquiry to investigate these charges?
Mr. HARMSWORTHThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The suggestion that the League of Nations should be requested to participate in the inquiry was carefully considered by His Majesty's Government when the inquiry was first proposed, but was found to be impracticable. The whole question is, however, engaging the earnest attention of His Majesty's Government.
