asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, in view of the financial burden on the Treasury, he will consider the introduction of a graduated tax on advertisements on the same lines as is being carried out in France at present?

My predecessors and I have frequently considered proposals for a tax of this kind, but as I have already announced it is not my intention to introduce new forms of taxation in the forthcoming year.
