HC Deb 21 June 1921 vol 143 c1110W
Mr. MACLEAN

asked the Minister of Pensions whether he is aware that John Simpson Croy, No. 267,703, Royal Engineers, died on 4th January, 1920; that this man was in receipt of a pension of 13s. 10d. per week; that on 2nd January, 1920, a letter was received by him offering him £35 to pay him off the pension list; that owing to the state of his health he was unable to sign his name, but the cheque was forwarded two months after his death and returned by his widow; that in September, 1919, this man forwarded his marriage certificate and the children's birth certificates, in order to qualify for an allowance, and no trace can be found of these certificates; that his wife has made application for a pension and has been refused; the reasons for this refusal; and whether he is prepared to have this case reviewed?

Mr. MACPHERSON

As the Pensions Appeal Tribunal have confirmed the decision that the man died of a disease which was found to have no connection with his service, I regret that the widow is ineligible for an award of pension from my Department. I am having inquiries made regarding the remainder of the question and will communicate with the hon. Member.
