HC Deb 20 June 1921 vol 143 c905W

asked the Prime Minister if he is aware that certain Government Departments in the neighbourhood of Salisbury Plain are employing labour at very high rates; that, attracted by these rates, men are leaving firms by whom they have been employed for many years to enter Government Departments; and whether, when readjustment of wages is taking place, he will consider the advisability of reducing the wages in all Government Departments correspondingly to the reductions proposed in civil establishments?

As far as I am aware, the principles of the Fair Wages Resolution are being observed in this area. Readjustments of wages are now taking place in the building trade generally, and the wages of Government employés will conform to these readjustments.
