§ Captain THORPEasked the Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to the trial of an officer by general court martial at Chelsea Barracks on charges of dishonesty on 14th June; whether he is aware that the prosecution proved, after finding, that the accused had already been cashiered by general court martial in 1916; whether His Majesty was advised to grant this officer a commission a second time; and whether the former sentence was brought to His Majesty's notice when such advice was given?
§ Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANSI have seen a report of the case in the 913W Press, but the proceedings of the court martial have not yet reached the War Office. I have ascertained that the individual was formerly convicted by general court martial and that when recommended a second time for appointment to a commission he was described by a different name and initial and was consequently not identified.
