§ Mr. SHORTTThe total number of licences extinguished on payment of compensation during 1920 in England and Wales was 526. The average amount of compensation paid in respect thereof was £1,439 1s. 11d for each full licence, and £1,346 19s. 3d. for each beer-house licence.
