asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what taxation is imposed in Germany and in this country on 50 lbs. of coffee and tea, respectively?


The duties payable in Germany and England on 50 lbs. of coffee and tea respectively are as follow:—

Coffee, other than raw 39.8 25 0
Tea 50.0 50 0
Sales of these articles in Germany are also subject to the Turnover Tax of 1½ per cent. The amounts stated for the United Kingdom are subject to a deduction of one-sixth if the goods are proved to be of Empire origin.
