Sir WILLIAM BARTONasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the amount per head of the total taxation levied during the present financial year if equally divided over the population of the United Kingdom so far as is known; if he can state, approximately, what would be the nearest equivalent figure applied to the estimated populations of Germany, France, Belgium, Italy and the United States of America; and can he state, separately, the approximate amount of the internal and external debt of each country named?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINsupplies the following extract from Paper No. IV, presented by the League of Nations to the Financial Conference at Brussels, in accordance with the promise contained in his answer of 17th February, 1921 [OFFICIAL REPORT, col. 304]:
