§ Mr. HOODasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that a large number of debts due from German nationals to British nationals were collected by the Treuhander during the War; and whether, under the Treaty of Peace with Germany, these debts can be claimed under Article 296, or whether the creditor must claim under Clause 297?
§ Sir P. LLOYD-GREAMEI am aware of the fact stated in the first part of the question. As regards the second part, I am advised that debts collected by the Treuhander under German war emergency legislation have thereby lost their character of debts and become proceeds of liquidation, and as such are claimable under Article 297 at pre-War rate of exchange.
