asked the President of the Board of Trade how many thousand tons of pig iron were imported into this country of ordinary forget and foundry quality from Belgium and France; and how many blast furnaces have been put out of blast since January, 1921?

The quantity of forge and foundry pig iron imported into this country, consigned from Belgium and France, in 1921, was as follows: January, 13,469 tons; February, 26,478 tons; March, 35,209 tons. The number of furnaces in blast in the United Kingdom at the end of January, 1921, was 242; at the end of February, 193; and at the end of March, 109. By the 12th April this number was reduced to 30.
