HC Deb 25 November 1920 vol 135 c687W
Mr. HIGHAM

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will consider the advisability of introducing a tax of Id. in the £ on every article or commodity made and sold, particularly in view of the fact that such a tax would bring in a vast revenue, would be easily and inexpensively collected, and would be acceptable to the whole community?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

My hon. Friend may rest assured that proposals of this character and other alternative schemes for raising revenue will be fully considered before the introduction of the next Budget. I shall be obliged to my hon. Friend if he will communicate to me the evidence on which the last phrase of his question is founded.
