HC Deb 24 November 1920 vol 135 c467W
Major BIRCHALL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Treasury has yet sanctioned the proposed agreement between the Office of Works and the Northgate Mansions Company, Gloucester, whereby the latter's premises are to be rented for an employment exchange; and, if not, whether he it> aware that great inconvenience and loss is being caused by the delay in his Department?

Mr. BALDWIN

This proposal was sanctioned recently by the Treasury in the ordinary course of business. I am not aware of any inconvenience and loss to the public caused by the alleged delay, and I am sure that it is not in accordance with the public interest that proposals for improved accommodation for employment exchanges should be rushed through without careful consideration, to make sure that they are really unavoidable.
