§ Mr. GOULDasked the Secretary for Mines whether he is aware that the French Government have officially published their intention to place a heavy export tax on French fir timber, which timber South Wales collieries largely depend upon for timbering the mines; and whether, in view of the fact that such extra cost will fall upon the colliery proprietors, and will inevitably increase the cost of production and entail a rise in the price of domestic coal, he will cause representations to be made to the French Government with a view to the abrogation of this tax, particularly having regard to the favoured treatment this country has meted out to France in the matter of coal supplies?
