§ Mr. GILBERTasked the First Commissioner of Works when the temporary buildings in all the Embankment gardens will be removed; is he aware that these gardens are largely used by the London public; and can he undertake that they shall be cleared in time so that they can be enjoyed for the spring and summer months by the ratepayers of London, who are now rated for their upkeep and maintenance?
§ Sir A. MONDIn view of the fact that certain requisitioned business premises are still occupied by Government Departments, which I am endeavouring to release as rapidly as possible, and as alternative accommodation is only to be obtained at a very great expenditure of public money, I regret that I am unable to give the undertaking asked for. I am, however, fully alive to the importance of removing the temporary buildings on the Embankment gardens at the earliest possible moment.
