§ Mr. MACLEODasked the Secretary of State for India whether, in regard to the revised rates of pay for the Public Works Department, certain officers actually drew less pay, amounting in some cases to as much as Rs. 250 per mensem, than they were drawing under the old scale; and whether, if this be the case, he will authorise personal allowances to such officers to ensure that they shall not draw less pay under the revised scale than they did under the old scale?
§ Mr. MONTAGUI am not aware of any cases in which the revised scales of pay for the Indian Public Works Department do not confer an immediate benefit, but I have decided that if an engineer was drawing a higher rate of pay under the old scale than that which he would receive under the new scale, he may be allowed to continue to draw the excess amount until it has been absorbed by the annual increments.
