HC Deb 29 March 1920 vol 127 c902W
Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland by whose orders the troops and police searched the house of the late Lord Mayor of Cork on the night that gentleman was murdered; at what hour the orders for the search were given; and why they were not cancelled when information of the murder was received?

Sir A. WILLIAMSON

My right hon. Friend has asked me to answer this question. The arrest of the late Thomas McCurtain was ordered by the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief in Ireland on Friday, the 19th instant, and arrangements were made for the arrest to be carried out the same night. The party sent to make the arrest and search the premises were unaware that McCurtain had been shot until their arrival at the house.
