Mr. N. MACLEAN asked the Prime Minister whether there are any restrictions in force which prevent organised bodies of Civil Servants affiliating to the Labour party or Trade Union Congress?

The PRIME MINISTER: I am not aware of any formal restrictions of the kind mentioned, but for Civil Servants as a body to join any political party in the State would be obviously unwise and pernicious.
