Mr. GREENWOODasked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that there are about 4,000 cotton doublers on strike in the Stockport district; that the strike is causing a great deal of suffering to work-people and their relatives and considerable inconvenience to other industries depending upon doubling; and if he is taking any steps to settle the dispute?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAMy Department has been in constant communication with the parties to this dispute, which appears to arise from a refusal of the operatives to accept the terms of the recent general settlement of the cotton industry. I regret to state that up to the present it has not been possible to affect a settlement.
