§ Viscount CURZONasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether power methylated spirit imported into this country is at present, or will be under the Finance Bill, subject to any higher taxation than 4d. per gallon?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINMethylated spirit imported is liable to the full spirit import duty, and there is no provision in the Finance Bill for waiving this duty on importations of power methylated spirit. But the plain unsweetened foreign spirit or rum may be imported for methylation in this country, subject only to payment of the difference between the duty of Customs chargeable thereon and the duty of Excise chargeable on British spirits.
