HC Deb 08 July 1920 vol 131 c1674W

Mr. CROOKS asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the War Office whether he is aware that First-class Writer J. H. Sullivan, employed in the Army Ordnance Department, Woolwich Arsenal, is a single man with a mother dependent upon him; that, whilst in the Army, he received civil pay minus his Army pay and his mother's dependents' allowance; that. whilst in the Army, he received no additions to his civil pay in respect of the bonuses granted from time to time, apparently on the ground that he is a single man; whether it was the intention of the Regulations that a single man with dependants should be treated the same as a single man with no dependants; and whether he will make inquiry into this case with a view to Sullivan being put on the same basis as a widower with dependent children?

Sir A. WILLIAMSON: Mr. Sullivan would appear to have been treated in strict accordance with the Regulations laid down on this subject for the Government service as a whole.
