HC Deb 08 July 1920 vol 131 c1689W

Mr. LUNN asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture whether Princes Covert and Stoke Wood, near Oxshott, are Crown lands; and, if so, whether he can see his way to opening the woods to the public?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN: The particular woods in question, which contain about 800 acres, including young plantations, are being managed strictly for forestry purposes on commercial lines. If the woods were thrown open to the public indiscriminately the risk of damage would be indefinitely increased, while the extra cost that would have to be incurred in necessary surveillance would be great. The Commissioners of Woods, as at present advised, regret therefore that they are unable to entertain the hon. Member's suggestion.
