§ Brigadier-General WIGAN
asked the Secretary of State for War if he will state the present strength of staff and cadets at the Royal Military Colleges at Sandhurst and Woolwich, respectively; what the establishments of the above places were prior to the War; and if any reduction in the establishments is contemplated?724W
§ Mr. CHURCHILL
The establishment of officers, including Commandants and Assistant Commandants, at the Royal Military Academy and Royal Military College before the War was as follows:—
Royal Military Academy … 34 Royal Military College … 55
By means of amalgamating companies at both institutions it has been found possible to reduce the number of officers. This re-organisation is now in progress and will be fully completed at the end of the present term in July, when the number of officers at these institutions will be as follows:—
Royal Military Academy … 27 Royal Military College … 47
In addition to the above there are now-French officers at both institutions for teaching the French language.
Number of cadets before the War was as follows:—
Royal Military Academy … 288 Royal Military College … 560
The number now at the Royal Military Academy is practically the same. At the Royal Military College the number is now nearly 700.
