HC Deb 28 April 1920 vol 128 cc1261-2W
Mr. RATCLIFFE

asked the Minister of Food if he is aware that salesmen dealing in Government meat are making conditions in the sales of such meat, making it compulsory that a retailer should take a larger proportion of inferior meat than he takes of best, whereas a retailer making conditional sales is liable to a penalty; and is he prepared to accord the same treatment to both wholesaler and retailer?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I have been asked to reply. In order to avoid having all the best meat taken off salesmen's hands in the first instance, it is customary for buyers to take a fair average of the meat which may have suffered from rough handling or other causes, buyers are, generally speaking, not unwilling to take advantage of this arrangement, and it is believed that retailers do not take any exception to this practice.
