§ Captain LOSEBYasked the Attorney-General if his attention has been called to the fact that in the recent trial of the Luton rioters at Bedford Assizes the jurymen were in attendance continuously for seven days; and if he will consider the advisability of initiating legislation which will allow the payment of out-of-pocket expenses in this and similar cases?
§ Major BAIRDI have been asked to reply to this question. I think there is much to be said in favour of the payment to jurymen of their out-of-pocket expenses, but the Home Secretary regrets that he does not at present see. his way to initiate legislation for that purpose.
