§ Dr. MACNAMARAThe staff of the Department on 1st July last numbered 297. The number at present is 284, and changes now in progress will reduce this figure to 258 early in November. It would not be wise to make further reductions in the staff as yet, inasmuch as the activities of the Department result in considerable saving of public money.
