§ Mr. HASLAMasked the Minister of Transport whether he will state the number of persons employed in connection with the railways before the introduction of the eight-hours system, and the number now so employed; and whether there is less delay now at terminals than there was prior to this change?
Sir R. WILLIAMSThe number of persons employed by the principal railway companies increased from nearly 500,000 to nearly 600,000 between November, 1918, and July, 1919, which are the latest dates for which figures are at present available. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.
