§ Mr. HASLAMasked the Minister of Transport whether large stores of bricks required for building purposes are delayed owing to the lack of transport facilities; if so, whether the delay is due to shortage of trucks or due more to the detention of trucks at terminals; and will he consider the desirability of motor road transport for dealing with the congestion, where materials can be transferred direct to the precise localities where they are required?
Sir R. WILLIAMSI am informed that there are large stocks of bricks awaiting transport facilities, but I am not aware that any delay to building schemes is being caused by lack of transport facilities for bricks. The use of road transport for this traffic is a matter for the interests 1943W concerned. The Government has no intention of entering into competition with private carriers in that traffic.
