§ Mr. LESLIE SCOTTasked the Secretary of State for War whether 250,000 British Army horses were recently handed over to France for agricultural 904W use to make good war losses; whether a condition was attached to the transfer that the horses should be well fed and humanely treated; and what steps have been taken to make the condition effective in practice?
Captain GUESTThe actual number of surplus Army horses sold in France up to the week ending 22nd of March was 56,000. As regards the latter part of the question, I would refer my hon. and learned Friend to the answer which I gave on the 18th March to my hon. Friend the Member for Eastbourne, explaining the steps taken to secure humane treatment for these horses.
