§ Major HILLSasked the Secretary of State for War whether, though a non commissioned officer or man gets £1 a year up to £12 for each year's service that he completes up to twelve years, in the event of his re-engaging to complete twenty-one years' service he receives only a gratuity of £2 on the completion of the twenty-one years; and, if so, whether the point will be reconsidered with a view to raising the gratuity?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLThe position is correctly stated by my hon. and gallant Friend and I would refer him to the reply given on 24th ultimo to my hon. and learned Friend the Member for York. The re-engaged soldier who completes twenty-one years is eligible for a permanent pension.
