§ Major O'NEILLasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that Private J. W. Thomson, No. 180122, 1032 Motor Transport Company, Army Service Corps, has been serving with the Salonika Force for three years without any home leave; and, in view of the fact that this soldier's health has been much impaired from malaria, will he issue orders for a term of home leave to be granted to him without further delay?
Captain GUESTThe granting of leave is a matter entirely in the hands of the Commander-in-Chief, and I regret that no special action can be taken in the case mentioned. As my hon. and gallant Friend will realise the shipping accommodation available for bringing home men on leave is restricted owing to the desire to release as rapidly as possible those who are eligible for demobilisation. The military medical authorities are responsible for the health of the troops, and I am sure that they will arrange for Thompson to be sent home, if the condition of his health renders it desirable.
