§ Mr. ROSEasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the Rose Street Foundry and Engineering Company, Glasgow, have locked out their employés owing to a demand from the engineers for the forty-seven-hours week as per national agreement; and whether any immediate measures are being taken or are in contemplation for the purpose of compelling this firm to conform to the accepted terms and customs of engineering employment?
§ Sir R. HORNEI am aware of the difficulty that has arisen, which is one that has for some time been the subject of correspondence between the Admiralty and the firm. A representative of my Department has been instructed to consult with the firm and with the representatives of the unions.
