Colonel THORNEasked the Food Controller if he is aware that American whisky importers are in a position to import whisky in American steamers if the Government will give permission to allow it to be imported; and, in consequence of there being a shortage of whisky in this country, will he give facilities for the importation of American whisky that has been purchased and paid for since January of this year?
§ Mr. McCURDYThe Food Controller is aware that it might be possible for arrangements for importation to be made in this way; but the power to modify restrictions on import into this country does not rest with the Ministry of Food.
