§ Sir HERBERT NIELDasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that an application was made on form R.C.T.V., early in November, 1918, for the release of Rifleman E. J. Tucker, No. 63995, 53rd Battalion King's Royal Rifles, to enable him to complete his legal studies, and to be articled to a solicitor, and that a request had been sent forward for his early release by the Ministry of Labour on or before the 29th January; and upon what ground this young man is being retained in the forces?
Captain GUESTThe release of Rifleman Tucker is, of course, dependent on his being eligible for demobilisation under Army Order 55 of 1919, which provided for the composition of the Army of Occupation. I am informed that an application on Form R.C.V. and not R.C.T.V. in respect of this soldier in which he was described as a bank clerk was received by the Ministry of Labour some time ago, and his release slip was forwarded to his commanding officer in the usual way; if he is eligible he will be released in due course.
