Mr. COOTEasked the Food Controller if he is aware that wholesale co-operative societies are permitted to purchase eggs in Ireland direct from the producers at, say, the wholesale price of 4s. 6d. per dozen and to retail them in their own shops in England and Scotland at the full retail price of 5s. 6d., while bonâ fide wholesale dealers and shippers are not permitted to sell at a higher figure than 5s., cost of packing and labour included.
Mr. ROBERTSThe wholesale co operative societies are in the same position as any other wholesalers or wholesale societies and are governed so far as maximum prices are concerned by the same regulations. They cannot, therefore, sell to the retail co-operative societies at a higher figure than 5s.
