§ Captain DIXONasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware that irritation is being caused amongst Irish horse breeders by the continuance of the restriction on the export abroad of horses; and whether, in view of the fact that we are not now at war, and that there is no foreign demand for horses which cannot be, met without unduly depleting the breeding stock, he will now withdraw all restriction on foreign export?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONSo far as Ireland is concerned there have been no restrictions for a considerable time past on the export from this country of horses fit to travel. The existing restrictions are applicable to horses from any part of the United Kingdom, and require the exporter to obtain a licence from the War Trade Department for horses going to foreign countries. In the case of Irish horses such licences have been freely granted.
