HC Deb 04 August 1919 vol 119 cc56-8W
Sir OWEN PHILIPPS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps have been taken to include in the agreement under which the French Government is taking over control of part or the whole of the late German colony in Togoland protection for the rights of British merchants in Togoland and, in particular, in connection with the position of premises at present leased on monthly tenancy from the British authorities in Togoland?

Lieut.-Colonel AMERY

It may be assumed that, speaking generally, there will be equality of treatment in commercial matters as between British and French subjects in such parts of Togoland as may come under French control. I regret that I am not in a position to make any statement with regard to the particular properties referred to in the last part of my hon. Friend's question.
