§ Mr. RENDALLasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that Private A. Carter, No. 190634, attached to the 105th Company, Army Service Corps, 9th Division Train, British Expeditionary Force, France, who joined the Army in 1917, has a wife and two children who have been compelled to go into the workhouse as their separation allowance was insufficient to maintain them; that the separation allowance has been stopped and the wife and family are now supported by the rates; that Private Carter's mother has become blind and his brother is dying, and that leave to visit him before his death was refused, although Dr. Aubrey, of Bilton, Gloucestershire, wrote the facts to the commanding officer; that Carter has only had one leave since joining the Army in April, 1917; and what does he propose to do in this case?
§ Mr. FORSTERMy attention has not previously been drawn to this case, but I am having inquiries made and will let my hon. Friend know the result as soon as possible.
