HC Deb 21 October 1918 vol 110 cc469-70W

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether Indians have been prevented from purchasing land in Mombasa at a recent sale of Government land there; and if the India Office was consulted before this step was taken?

Yes, Sir. The sale was arranged to meet a pressing need for European residences in a part of the island which, in accordance with expert sanitary advice, is intended to be set apart for European purposes. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.
