§ Mr. S. WALSHOn the 29th December, 1917, the latest date for which complete figures are available, there were 61,974 children in receipt of poor relief in institutions in England and Wales, including 992 lunatics in lunatic asylums. Owing to the suspension of the usual returns during the War, I am unable to say how many of these were orphans.
