HC Deb 14 November 1918 vol 110 c2892W
Colonel THORNE

asked the Food Controller whether the Department of Oils and Fats has an annual turnover of £70,000,000; what were the total profits of this Department for the first six months of this year, or for whatever period the accounts are made up to; and when is it proposed to reduce the price of margarine?

Major ASTOR

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. With regard to the second part the account to which all receipts are paid, and from which the costs of raw material, of manufacturing, transport and other charges, both for current trading and for reserve, have to be met, showed a balance in hand on the first three months of the year of £886,771. As has already been announced, the price of margarine is to be reduced to 1s. per lb as from November 17th.
