HC Deb 04 November 1918 vol 110 c1805W
Commander BELLAIRS

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he can state the total deposits and cash balances in Irish banks, inclusive of Post Office and trustee savings banks, for the year 1913 before the War and for the latest available year, and the amount that the savings have increased per head of the population?

I have been asked by my right hon. Friend to answer this question. The total deposits and balances in joint stock banks in Ireland and in Post Office Savings Bank and trustee savings banks in Ireland were on 31st December, 1913, £77,921,000, and on 31st December, 1917, £105,078,000. The increase of £27,157,000 is approximately equivalent to £6 5s. per head of population.
