HC Deb 21 February 1918 vol 103 c941W
Mr. BILLING

asked the Under-Secretary of State to the Air Ministry whether he is still satisfied that the R.E.8 is a safe and useful type of machine for young pilots to fly; and whether the Air Ministry have decided to continue the building of this type?

Major BAIRD

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The hon. Member may rest assured that the Air Ministry makes it its constant business to see that the types of machines used by pilots are satisfactory both from the point of view of performance and safety, but it would be wholly contrary to the public interest to announce to the world at what time one type is likely to be displaced by another.
