HC Deb 21 February 1918 vol 103 c937W
Mr. BYRNE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he is aware that discontent and dissatisfaction are expressed in many parts of Ireland by the relatives of soldiers owing to the failure of the War Office authorities to grant leave to those longest on foreign service; and if he is aware that cases have been brought to the notice of the hon. Member for the Harbour Division, Dublin, where soldiers have not received leave for the past two, and in many cases three, years?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I would refer the hon. Member to the statement which I made yesterday during the discussion on Army Estimates. I would also refer him to my reply to a similar question which he asked on the 23rd January last, in which I stated that there was no truth in the suggestion that Irish soldiers are treated less favourably, in the matter of leave, than their comrades from other parts of the United Kingdom.
