HC Deb 17 April 1918 vol 105 c409W
Captain SHEEHAN

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware of the effect of the Order prohibiting the import of maize into Ireland on the raising of bacon and, to a certain extent, beef; whether he is aware that this Order will particularly affect pigs, a great number of which are at present in an unfinished state; and whether, having regard to these considerations, he will consider the possibility of modifying the Order in the interests of increased food production in Ireland?

Mr. CLYNES

There is no Order prohibiting the importation of maize into Ireland. Every effort is being made to maintain importation at its highest figure, but in view of actual and prospective supplies it is not possible to divert to stock feeding the maize which can be used in bread.
