Captain STEPHEN GWYNN

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland how many times in the last two years sentence of penal servitude or of capital punishment has been pronounced on minors in Ireland by criminal Courts and courts-martial, respectively; and in how many cases the death sentence has been carried out?

Mr. DUKE

Eleven minors have been sentenced to penal servitude and nine to capital punishment during the past two years. With the exception of one case of capital sentence, all were sentences of courts-martial. In no case was the death sentence carried out.
